“When you asked me what I did in school today and I say, 'I just played.' Please don’t misunderstand me. For you see, I am learning as I play. I am learning to enjoy and be successful in my work. Today I am a child and my work is play.”
-Anita Wadley, 1974.
The power of play
The power of play has been drastically undermined and ignored in schools and pre-schools across the country. Research shows that “play” plays a crucial role in the brain development of children and positively effects their mental, physical, and emotional health. Through play, children learn not only how to interact with others and their environment, but also learn about themselves. At Little Heroes Learning Academy, it is not our goal to prepare children for the rigors of public school. Rather, it is our goal to supply them with the tools and behaviors that optimize their physical, mental and emotional health so that they are equipped to progress through life with confidence, inspiration, curiosity, and a continuous love of learning. To support this, we maintain a purposeful play-based environment throughout the day where the children can participate in a number of different play activities such as imaginative play, competitive play, cooperative play, solo play, and more.
